THREE: DIY SKINCARE

February 9, 2017

The girls have EXTREMELY sensitive skin, and battling the ever present dry skin on their cheeks especially during the harsh Chicago winter months is no small chore. The other day we decided to treat ourselves and have  bit of fun as well by making face masks! I will usually do a mask once every other week or so and Lyla is always asking to do one too, but I never felt comfortable with putting anything other than aloe vera “mask” on her. Sienna wants to do everything her big sister does after a little investigative googling we headed into our fridge and pantry to make their yogurt + coco powder masks.

They were so excited while we mixed! We used the same coco powder that I use to make hot coco but didn’t add any sugar to it. Although now that I’m thinking about it the sugar could have been an exfoliant…..maybe next time.

The girls had fun. It’s not everyday that I risk the white walls by letting them get dirty inside the house. The one constructive criticism from them was that it didn’t taste good.

I knew I should have added sugar!

Needless to say a bath immediately followed this activity!

TWO: SMOOTH MOVE

January 31, 2017

There are some VERY picky eaters in our house! Especially when it comes to eating fruits and vegetables.

I read somewhere that you are supposed to just keep offering them, but every time something other than butter noodles, hot dogs, or chicken fingers end up on her plate Lyla is quick to say “No thank you mama. It’s just not for me.” Which is completely adorable that at least she is polite, but it’s crazy frustrating because I want her to eat things that are good for her body… And I don’t want to go to war over every meal… AND, probably most importantly I want her to have a healthy relationship with food.

We eat dinner as a family around 6:45 at night so the girls have a snack in the afternoon. I’m trying to  find a way to try to get ANY nutrients into them…

BANANA OATMEAL SMOOTHIE

1/2 CUP ROLLED OATS

1 WHOLE BANANA

1 CUP UN-SWEETEND VANILLA ALMOND MILK

1 CUP BLUBERRIES

She got really excited over the fact that it was PURPLE! And I let her use a straw which is always a plus.

She took like 4 sips.

I’m calling that a success.
