ANALOG ARIZONA

January 18, 2019

scottsdale arizona

This year we spent the holidays in Arizona. I took my extremely old, only half working pentex from its hiding spot in the attic and loaded it up. It was a fun little experiment to only use the film camera, and put my phone down. It was like the vacations I went on as a child.

I spent a month in 1989 and I only used 2 rolls of 36 exposure film. Granted I was only a kid, but I feel as if we used to live much more in the moment before our cell phones took over our lives. I wanted to simplify…

I decided on a whim to get off of social media.

To stop the noise and to stop comparing.

I have no idea what took me so long. It feels like being on the best vacation! Absolutely no regrets.

TWENTY ONE – A MORNING IN MISSISSIPPI

April 2, 2018

Spring break 2018 was our first “real” road trip as a family. We have gone on shorter trips to Michigan and Door county Wisconsin, but everything has been within 5 hours. This time we drove to the Gulf coast of Florida. It should have been a 14 hour drive but somehow took so much longer!!!!

We had a wonderful time but I think that I totally approached the drive completely wrong. We split the drive into 2 days each way. On our way back home we took a detour and stayed in the most adorable bed and breakfast in French camp Mississippi. We stayed in the Carriage house, which was so charming and had an actually antique carriage on display just outside the home. As we were walking to breakfast the girls were able to spend some time with the ponies that live on the property!!!! There were 4 of them, and the girls immediately started naming them. Lyla named one Pearla, ( because its hair color was the color of a pearl of course) and Sienna named one Apple Jack ( her current fav from My little Pony)

The next driving trip we take I’m going to try to convince Wayne to have an early start. Ive heard others say this is the way to go. Get the kids in the car, get on the road by like 5am, let the kids sleep for a few hours before you have to make the first food stop. This totally makes sense, and I have no idea why we couldn’t come up with this on our own, but then if we did it that way the girls would never have woken up and been able to see all of this.

THIRTEEN: VERSAILLES

August 3, 2017

We had the most incredible time at Versailles. Every little girl ( and even Mama) wants to imagine what it would be like to be a Princess. As we walked through the Royal Apartments I chatted with Lyla about the things I knew about life at the Palace. She was really interested in everything and got plenty of inspiration on how she wanted to decorate her bedroom. Insert eye roll here.2017_JANKOWSKI_CEREMONY-56.jpg2017_JANKOWSKI_CEREMONY-60.jpg

The girls danced together in almost every room possible. It was so great to see them interacting this way. They were pretending that they were at a ball:)2017_JANKOWSKI_CEREMONY-53.jpg2017_JANKOWSKI_CEREMONY-54.jpg

After the spending some time in the hall of mirrors we headed outside to my absolute favorite part of the day….. The gardens.2017_JANKOWSKI_CEREMONY-46.jpg2017_JANKOWSKI_CEREMONY-47.jpg2017_JANKOWSKI_CEREMONY-48.jpg2017_JANKOWSKI_CEREMONY-49.jpg2017_JANKOWSKI_CEREMONY-50.jpg

We spent a bit of time in the formal gardens near the Palace before we boarded the “little train” to see Marie Antoinette’s Hamlet. As we rode the train Lyla couldn’t believe that everything was part of the King and Queens “backyard”2017_JANKOWSKI_CEREMONY-59.jpg2017_JANKOWSKI_CEREMONY-58.jpg2017_JANKOWSKI_CEREMONY-61.jpg2017_JANKOWSKI_CEREMONY-76.jpg2017_JANKOWSKI_CEREMONY-81.jpg2017_JANKOWSKI_CEREMONY-62.jpg2017_JANKOWSKI_CEREMONY-63.jpg2017_JANKOWSKI_CEREMONY-64.jpg2017_JANKOWSKI_CEREMONY-65.jpg

We had the most wonderful day at Versailles. While traveling with a 2 year old and a 6 year old you are forced to take things slow and to not over plan too many activities in a day. Watching them play chase together warmed my heart in ways I can’t even describe.2017_JANKOWSKI_CEREMONY-73.jpg2017_JANKOWSKI_CEREMONY-70.jpg2017_JANKOWSKI_CEREMONY-75.jpg2017_JANKOWSKI_CEREMONY-77.jpg2017_JANKOWSKI_CEREMONY-67.jpg2017_JANKOWSKI_CEREMONY-66.jpg2017_JANKOWSKI_CEREMONY-80.jpg2017_JANKOWSKI_CEREMONY-79.jpg2017_JANKOWSKI_CEREMONY-78.jpg2017_JANKOWSKI_CEREMONY-55.jpg2017_JANKOWSKI_CEREMONY-45.jpg
