TEN: PRESERVING SPRING

April 28, 2017

LILACS_01LILACS_02Spring is here and the lilacs are in full bloom! They are definitely the most photogenic thing in our yard ( Other than my girls of course….. Look at how little they look in these images from just last year!)

A handful of years ago I planted some very small lilac bushes in front of our garage. It is the best decision I have ever made! I love the smell so much that I went outside to forage some branches to dry  in the hopes of turning the dried petals into potpourri sachets.

LILACS_03LILACS_04LILACS_05Once I collected a few branches I simply tied them together using a rubber band and some twine.LILACS_06LILACS_07After I tied the bouquet together ( yes, I have the WORST chipped manicure right now) I hung it in our downstairs guest bath. We rarely use it, so I thought it would be the perfect place to dry the blooms. LILACS_08Once the blooms dry I will place them in sachets to keep in our drawers….LILACS_09

nine: miami vacation haze

April 16, 2017

I feel as though the month of April is moving ahead at the speed of light! We spent the beginning of the month in Miami during Lyla’s spring break. We all had the most amazing time, ate wayyyyy too much food and pretty much alternated between visiting the pool and the beach.

MIAMI_01We loved walking along the boardwalk and enjoying the breeze coming off of the ocean. MIAMI_02MIAMI_03MIAMI_04MIAMI_05MIAMI_06MIAMI_07MIAMI_08MIAMI-19MIAMI-20MIAMI-18MIAMI-15MIAMI-16MIAMI_10MIAMI-13MIAMI-11MIAMI-12MIAMI_09MIAMI-21MIAMI-22MIAMI-16MIAMI-23MIAMI-25MIAMI-26MIAMI-27MIAMI-25-2MIAMI-24

EIGHT: KINDERGARTEN GEOMETRY DIY

April 9, 2017

COASTER DIY

Nap time is sort of a tricky time around our house. On a good day Sienna will nap for 2-3 hours in the afternoon, which leaves her big sister stuck in the house.

We are planning some backyard renovations which will allow us to spend HOPEFULLY all of our time outside this summer, but in the meantime we are trying to find things to fill the day during those naps.

We made this cork coasters together yesterday using 1/4 inch cork tiles and some leftover house paint. I cut the shapes out using an exacto knife and showed her how to tape the first section. Lyla was in charge of the painting. She wasn’t quite sure how everything was going to work out, but in the end she thought it was so cool how you could make something flat look 3D….. We also talked about mixing colors and what each shape was. I think they turned out really cute, and Lyla is looking forward to our next project together.
