Spring break 2018 was our first “real” road trip as a family. We have gone on shorter trips to Michigan and Door county Wisconsin, but everything has been within 5 hours. This time we drove to the Gulf coast of Florida. It should have been a 14 hour drive but somehow took so much longer!!!!
We had a wonderful time but I think that I totally approached the drive completely wrong. We split the drive into 2 days each way. On our way back home we took a detour and stayed in the most adorable bed and breakfast in French camp Mississippi. We stayed in the Carriage house, which was so charming and had an actually antique carriage on display just outside the home. As we were walking to breakfast the girls were able to spend some time with the ponies that live on the property!!!! There were 4 of them, and the girls immediately started naming them. Lyla named one Pearla, ( because its hair color was the color of a pearl of course) and Sienna named one Apple Jack ( her current fav from My little Pony)
The next driving trip we take I’m going to try to convince Wayne to have an early start. Ive heard others say this is the way to go. Get the kids in the car, get on the road by like 5am, let the kids sleep for a few hours before you have to make the first food stop. This totally makes sense, and I have no idea why we couldn’t come up with this on our own, but then if we did it that way the girls would never have woken up and been able to see all of this.
